Owner George Chao is a self-described risk taker, starting his business at 23 years old with minimal capital. He saw an opportunity in internet commerce and began his ambitious project. He built his company on brand and marketing, but due to the nature of internet commerce he needed a smaller town close to ports that could provide cheap warehousing. Pittsburg fit the bill, and with its up-and-coming businesses he knew it would elevate his important business image. He started in 2006 with a warehouse on Garcia. At that time, there was no reason to be downtown. Now he admits people are often there for the concerts and old car shows. The recent changes have made the area pleasant and appealing for his business.
